![]() ![]() The reason it places just outside the top 3 is because while I love how experimental this album got as is the case with many experimental albums there are times when what they were trying out wouldn’t work as well as some other things. I also think that this album is highly important within the bands output as this was the album that saw them adding so many different elements to their sound which would only be further expanded in albums released after. This album also included some of the most experimental work from the band which I think is best shown with the two part narrative song Vermillion. This album gave fans some of the best and most popular songs in the bands discography such as Before I Forget and Duality along with great deep cuts like Three Nil and Opium Of The People. However don’t take this placement as a statement that I don’t like this album as in my review I gave this a 4.5/5. This is probably going to be the choice that is the most divisive choice on this list as I’ve often seen this placed as many peoples favourite album. ![]() While I love how well crafted the bands more recent output has been there’s something about the unhinged and chaotic sound of the bands debut that feels mostly unique to this album.Ĥ. There’s also an edge to this album I really enjoy as despite it not being the most finely crafted Slipknot album it’s doesn’t need to be. It’s a great introduction to the band and especially seeing how far they’ve come it can be fun to revisit this album and compare it to more recent releases. However the reason I placed it above All Hope Is Gone is because I feel there’s still enough memorable moments and as a debut album this is really strong. In my review I also mention how lyrically this is Slipknot’s weakest album. Despite great moments such as (sic), Eyeless, Liberate Prosthetics and Scissors there are also tracks like No Life and Purity which I feel are some of the more forgettable songs in Slipknots discography. If you read my review for this album it may be a shock to see this so low, however when compared to the rest of the bands output I think this album is the most lacking. There are still plenty of great moments and I stand by my rating of 4/5 for this album but personally even though I wouldn’t call this a bad album and still think the good outshines the lesser elements this is Slipknot’s low point for me and my least favourite album by them. However tracks like Gehenna and Vendetta as well as the loss of certain elements I really love about this band such as the turntables and industrial elements serve as marks against it, also I feel like this album has the most amount of tracks I forget about. That said tracks like the popular Psychosocial and the emotional Snuff along with some great deep cuts like Butcher’s hook and Gematria (The Killing Name) do give the album some standout moments. With all that said let’s begin…Īs much as I did praise this album in my review, making the case that I don’t think this album is as bad as I’ve heard others say I still have to admit it’s probably my least favourite album by them. as that was just a demo and not an official studio release, I might take a look at it one day but for now I’ll look at the six studio releases. With that said I’ve managed to put the albums into an order I think best represents how I feel about all six of the bands albums, also I’m not including Mate. With every new album the band have pushed themselves and experimented more and more and I think that’s why Slipknot have endured for so long and continue to find huge success. Every release from the band has showcased a drastic change in style and I really think that no two Slipknot albums sound the same. This was so difficult to do, mostly because I don’t think Slipknot actually have a “bad” album. Now we have We Are Not Your Kind it’s time to go back and rank all six studio albums by the Iowa based metal band… ![]()
